ROBOTIC SURGERY

Our gynecology practice is happy to announce that we now offer robotic-assisted surgeries with the da Vinci Surgical System. Robotic-assisted surgeries are a type of minimally invasive surgery that can be utilized for procedures such as hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), salpingectomy (removal of the fallopian tubes),
oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries), cystectomy (removal of a cyst) or myomectomy (removal of fibroids). It is performed using a specialized camera and instruments that are inserted through multiple small incisions in the abdomen to provide the surgeon with greater visualization, dexterity and precision.

This results in many advantages for the patient compared to open surgery including shorter hospitalization, reduced pain and discomfort, faster recovery and smaller incisions with less scarring.
When performing robotic surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System, the surgeon works from a computer console in the operating room to control the instruments placed in the robotic arms. The surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements are transmitted to the instruments and reproduced in real time, resulting in smooth and precise movement. The camera provides a 3D high-definition view to deliver optimal visualization with the capability to magnify up to 10 times what the human eye can see. This leads to better accuracy, precision and control throughout the surgery, which can result in improved patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding minimally invasive or robotic-assisted surgery, and how we may be able to find the right procedure for you.

We currently perform these procedures exclusively at Sky Ridge Medical Center.
